The Scott Kirkbride Melanoma Research Centre is dedicated to investigating the causes of melanoma and was established in memory of Scott Kirkbride, a young Perth golfer who lost his battle with the disease in 2004, at just 27 years old.

It is a cause close to the heart of Kailis jeweller, Miles Henderson - close friend to Scott and his brother Nick.

Prior to Scott's diagnosis, Miles crafted sterling silver bracelets for the brothers as a link of solidarity between them. Then following Scott's passing, his mother, Vonnie Kirkbride, approached Miles with the idea of splitting Scott's bracelet into two, for herself and Scott's father Robbie.

Scott's parents now wear one half of his bracelet each, offering them a daily reminder of their courageous son and his enduring legacy.

Kailis has been active in its support of the Centre, now run by Vonnie, since it was established in 2005. For a recent fundraiser, Kailis donated a bracelet, inspired by the original piece worn by Scott and Nick, which was auctioned at the event.

As a tribute to Scott, a further 20 bracelets have since been made. The sterling silver mini charm bracelet features a Scott Kirkbride Melanoma Research Centre medallion alongside a Kailis pearl. These are available for $570.00 through Kailis' Fremantle, Claremont and Broome boutiques, with part proceeds from each bracelet going to the Centre.

"I am so touched that Miles has used his talents to honour Scott in such a beautiful way, ensuring his passing makes a positive difference. We're also very grateful that Kailis is involved, because corporate support is critical to keeping the Centre on-track with its important research into melanoma," said Vonnie.

Melanoma remains a deadly killer in Australia, with more than 1,000 new cases diagnosed each year. Now you can offer your support and pay tribute to a very special Western Australian, by purchasing a Scott Kirkbride Melanoma Research Centre bracelet.
