Top Shot: The SKMRC Charity Golf Day
September 14th, 2006 - Media Statement
The Wembley Golf Complex will again host the Scott Kirkbride Melanoma Research Centre's annual Charity Golf Day to help in the fight against skin cancer.
Money raised from the November 21 event will go towards helping the Centre, which is based within the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR), continue its research into the genetic and environmental causes of melanoma, one of the most deadly and prevalent forms of skin cancer.
The Centre was established in March 2005 in memory of Scott Kirkbride, a young Mt Claremont golfer who died from melanoma at the age of 27, who also worked at the Wembley Golf Complex.
ABC 720's Morning Program was the key instigator of last year's Golf Day, which raised more than $10,000 and saw more than 130 amateurs, including ABC personalities such as Andrew Wynne take to the course.
The 2006 Charity Golf Day kicks off at midday on November 21 and includes 18 holes of golf, lunch, a ticket to the event's dinner auction - and the opportunity to support skin cancer research.
Melanoma is the third most common form of cancer in Australia and there are over 1000 new cases of melanoma diagnosed in Western Australia each year.
The SKMRC has been made possible through fundraising efforts by the Kirkbride family, their friends and a generous commitment by The University of WA.
BOOKINGS FOR THE CHARITY GOLF DAY CAN BE MADE BY PHONING THE SKMRC ON (08) 9224 0333.
